What is the difference between ‘Open Captions’ and ‘Closed Captions’?
Accessibility matters in today’s live events. That’s why we provide English-language captioning at no extra cost on every live streaming event, helping you reach a wider audience. Depending on your platform, we also offer both ‘closed’ and ‘open’ captioning options to meet your specific accessibility needs. What are ‘Open Captions’?
Open captions stay visible on screen at all times, and viewers can’t turn them off. They’re “burned” directly into the video file itself, which makes them compatible with any device or media player. However, viewers can’t customise them — we set details like font size and colour during live production.
What are ‘Closed Captions’?
Closed captions give viewers the flexibility to turn them on or off. We encode them as a separate track within the live stream, or as an additional file (such as an .srt) that accompanies an on-demand video. Most video players support this format, and viewers can customise the font size, colour, and background to suit their preference.
